About the Book

Goodreads | Amazon
Chet and Kimberly have both failed when it comes to love. Will they risk their hearts to love again?

Chet Leonard's life was forever changed when his seventeen-year-old son died and then, soon after, his wife walked out on their family. Over two years later, all he wants to do is hold onto his horse ranch and raise his remaining sons to be honorable men.

Kimberly Welch, widowed mother of Tara, a rebellious fifteen-year-old, has reached the end of her finances and nearly the end of her rope. She and Tara come to Kings Meadow to try to piece their lives back together again. Kimberly has no intention of becoming involved with the residents of this remote mountain community and certainly not with any man.

When 84-year-old Anna McKenna returns to Kings Meadow and to the Leonard ranch, she becomes an agent of change and healing for the two hurting families. With her help, Kimberly and Chet's families at last discover a love without end.

Before Love Without End, I had only read Robin Lee Hatcher’s historical fiction, which I definitely enjoyed, but I was excited to experience a bit of her contemporary fiction. Although the time period was different, Hatcher still creates a cast of lovable, relatable, welcoming characters and sets them against a beautiful small-town Idaho background. As the characters worked to overcome hurts, hardships, losses of the past and embrace the possibilities of the future, I really enjoyed joining the family for the duration of the story. Love Without End is a well-developed story and a quick read, and I think fans of Robin Lee Hatcher will enjoy it. It’s a heartwarming read.

Thanks to LitFuse Publicity Group, I received a copy of Love Without End and the opportunity to provide an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review, and all the opinions I have expressed are my own. To read other opinions, be sure to check out what other reviewers think here.

Longing for More: Daily Reflections on Finding God in the Rhythms of Life by Timothy Willard

Goodreads | Amazon
Catch your breath and sit for a moment. Now listen…

What do you hear – questions of trust, longing, disappointment, courage, and love? In Longing for More, Timothy Willard invites us to think and pray through our deepest needs, and explores how the ebb and flow of life can be used for God's glory. Creatively organized in 52 chapters that follow the four seasons of the year, the daily readings point the way to a richer spiritual life.

Each day, I really enjoyed picking up Longing for More by Timothy Willard. Filled with a year’s worth of devotions, mirroring the ebb and flow of life and faith, Willard’s writing is incredibly engaging and relevant. At no more than a page or two at most, each devotion can easily be incorporated into a daily schedule and spark valuable reflection. I know this is a collection of devotions I will revisit in the future. Longing for More is a book I would certainly recommend.

Thanks to Bethany House, I received a copy of Longing for More and the opportunity to provide an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review, and all the opinions I have expressed are my own.

Waiting on Wednesday: A Sparrow in Terezin

Hosted weekly by Breaking the Spine
to spotlight eagerly-anticipated upcoming releases.

Goodreads | Amazon
Title: A Sparrow in Terezin
Author: Kristy Cambron
Publisher: Thomas Nelson
Expected Publication Date: April 2015

Two women, one in the present day and one in 1942, each hope for a brighter future. But they'll both have to battle through their darkest days to reach it.

Today. With the grand opening of her new gallery and a fairytale wedding months away, Sera James appears to have a charmed life. But in an instant, the prospect of a devastating legal battle surrounding her fiancé threatens to tear her dreams apart. Sera and William rush to marry and are thrust into a world of doubt and fear as they defend charges that could separate them for life.

June 1942. After surviving the Blitz bombings that left many Londoners with shattered lives, Kaja Makovsky prayed for the war to end so she could return home to Prague. But despite the horrors of war, the gifted journalist never expected to see a headline screaming the extermination of Jews in work camps. Half-Jewish with her family in danger, Kaja has no choice but to risk everything to get her family out of Prague. But with the clutches of evil all around, her escape plan crumbles into deportation, and Kaja finds herself in a new reality as the art teacher to the children of Terezin.

Bound by a story of hope and the survival of one little girl, both Sera and Kaja will fight to protect all they hold dear.

Why I'm Waiting: I loved Kristy Cambron's first novel, The Butterfly and the Violin, so that's all I need to be excited to read this next one. But I also just love historical fiction and multiple, intertwining narratives. I can't wait.

A November Bride by Beth K. Vogt

Goodreads | Amazon
Sadie McAllister is fastidious to a fault - but that serves her well as a personal chef to her clients in Denver. But her earliest attempt at managing romance was a bust when Erik Davis declined her invitation to the school's eighth grade Sadie Hawkins Dance.

Having celebrated the big 3-0 by ending a relationship, Sadie is tired of romantic relationships-by-text. The only man she knows willing to put down his iPhone and have face-to-face conversations with her is Erik. It's time to put a 21st-century twist on the Sadie Hawkins' tradition of a woman going after her man. He may not be the hero of her romantic dreams, but she can propose to Erik and achieve some sort of happily ever after with her best friend.

Erik is good at two things: his freelance job and maintaining casual, no-one-gets-hurt relationships with women. What is Sadie thinking, proposing to him? This is marriage - not a middle school dance. Erik decides to show Sadie what romance looks like when the man takes the lead. And while he's at it, he'll prove just how wrong they are for each other. But when he realizes he's fallen for her, can Erik convince Sadie his just-for-fun dates were the prelude to "'til death do us part"?

As a fan of Zondervan’s A Year of Weddings from the start, I was delighted to read Beth K. Vogt’s cute contribution, “A November Bride.” Her characters, Sadie and Erik, have been best friends since middle school, but do not realize their romantic potential until they reach 30. As they explore the potential of their budding relationship, it was great to see them working to overcome their fears and insecurities. A sweet and fun romance, “A November Bride” adds a great story to this first novella collections and provides a wonderful conclusion. I’m definitely looking forward to reading more from Vogt in the future.

The Bracelet by Dorothy Love

Goodreads | Amazon
The mystery surrounding Celia's home in Savannah threatens her family reputation… and her very life.

Celia Browning is counting the days until her childhood sweetheart Sutton Mackay returns to Savannah after two years in Jamaica looking after his family's shipping interests. She's certain he will propose marriage, thus joining two of the city's most prominent families. But just as Sutton returns, an unsavory newspaper reporter arrives in town, determined to revive interest in the secret tragedies that occurred in the Browning mansion on Madison Square when Celia was a child.

A series of mysterious notes arrives at the house, followed by an anonymous gift – a bracelet imbued with a sinister message. Is it merely a coincidence, or is someone out to harm her?

As war clouds gather over Savannah and her beloved father's health worsens, Celia determines to uncover the truth about what really happened all those years ago.

Inspired by actual events in one of Savannah's most prominent 19th-century families, The Bracelet combines romance, rich historical detail, and breathtaking suspense as one young woman embarks upon a dangerous quest to free herself from her family's tragic past.

After reading Dorothy Love’s Carolina Gold earlier this year, I eagerly awaited the chance to once again be transported into the history of South Carolina. In The Bracelet, Love fascinatingly portrays the antebellum time in Savannah, as well as the lifestyle of its wealthier citizens. She writes vividly and captivatingly, and I loved it. In the midst of this historical setting, Love creates fantastic suspense and intrigue. With unexpected twists and plenty of pre-Civil-War turmoil, The Bracelet is an engaging murder-mystery novel. While it is not necessarily the romance I was initially hoping for, it is a highly enjoyable mystery and I would recommend it to those looking for a historical mystery.

Thanks to BookLook Bloggers, I received a copy of The Bracelet and the opportunity to honestly review it. I was not required to write a positive review, and all the opinions I have expressed are my own. Hope Crossing: The Complete Ada's House Trilogy by Cindy Woodsmall

Hope Crossing… where Ada’s House stands as a haven for weary souls looking for kindness, faith, and second chances.

The Hope of RefugeTwo very different women are pulled by their strongest desires. Deborah Mast joined the Amish church and longs to marry her fiancĂ©, but he is changing. The Bridge of PeaceLiving out her passion for teaching, Lena Kauffman’s work is suddenly interrupted by a series of pranks and accidents targeted toward her and her students. When tragedy strikes her dear friend Grey Graber’s family on school property, the school board begins to blame her for the trouble. As grief and confusion take their toll on Grey and Lena’s friendship, they are both forced to face a new reality that may offer the peace and love they each long for.

The Harvest of GraceFleeing a terrible mistake, Sylvia Fisher dedicates herself to saving the failing Blank farm. When prodigal son Aaron returns, he is surprised by this unusual farmhand who opposes all his plans. Will Aaron and Sylvia’s unflinching efforts toward opposite futures mask the bigger picture - a path to forgiveness, grace, and the promise of love?

In the past year, I have come to unexpectedly love Cindy Woodsmall’s novels through the Amish Vines and Orchards series and more recent A Love Undone, so I was really excited and subsequently delighted to read all of the Ada’s House novels together in Hope Crossing (especially since there was no wait or delay in between books). As usual, each novel is sweet and encouraging with spiritual themes of faith, hope, love and great, relatable characters. Throughout all the relationships and situations, I cared about each character’s story and had to keep reading to find out how everything would turn out. Overall, Hope Crossing is a great collection of novels and fans of Cindy Woodsmall will love it.

Thanks to Blogging for Books, I received a copy of Hope Crossing and the opportunity to provide an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review, and all the opinions I have expressed are my own.

About the Book

Goodreads | Amazon
Sara doesn't think she wants love. But her grandmother has other plans.

Sara Jane Morgan is trying to balance teaching with caring for her ailing, stubborn grandmother. When school lets out for the summer, the plans are for Grandma to teach Sara Jane to quilt as they finish up the Appalachian Ballad quilt Grandma started as a teenager. But things don't always go as planned.

Andrew Stevenson is hiding from his past – and his future. He works as a handyman to pay the bills, but his heart is as an artisan, designing homemade brooms. When Sara Jane's grandmother hires him to renovate her home, sparks fly between Drew and his new employer's granddaughter.

Still, it doesn't take Sara Jane long to see Drew isn't what he seems. Questions arise, and she starts researching him online. What she discovers could change her life – and her heart – forever.

Having now read several Quilts of Love novels, I realize that no story would be complete without the critical role of a grandmother - so naturally, Swept Away by Laura V. Hilton and Cindy Loven includes an endearing grandmother. But she is also quite meddlesome and eager to match-make, which makes the novel thoroughly entertaining and definitely fun to read. As Sara Jane’s grandmother tries to connect her with Drew, these two characters must first learn how to move beyond the hurts of the past in order to embrace their future. It’s a sweet romance and fits nicely with the other Quilts of Love novels I have read, though it can easily stand alone. I think anyone looking for a quick contemporary romance will enjoy Swept Away. I recommend it.

Trading Secrets by Melody Carlson

About the Book

Goodreads | Amazon
The truth may set you free - but it might also land you in some uncomfortably hot water.

Over the years, Micah Knight has exchanged many letters – and many secrets – with her longtime Amish pen pal, Zach. But Micah's kept quiet on the biggest secret of all – the fact that despite her name, she's a girl.

Now Micah finally has the chance to meet her pen pal face-to-face. She wants nothing more than to experience life on Zach's Amish farm, but she's more than a little anxious. Will he be angry at her for deceiving him all these years? And will she risk losing his friendship to find something more?

When I come across any book centering on pen pals, it immediately has my attention. I love the idea of writing letters, so those types of plots always fascinate me – and Melody Carlson’s Trading Secrets is no exception. Though not too many actual letters are involved within the story, it does explore the antics of two long-term pen pals meeting each other in person. It was an entertaining and fun read with spiritual themes of faith, uncertainty and the future, and I especially liked seeing how the different cultures clashed and connected. I think anyone looking for a sweet, clean YA read will enjoy Carlson’s Trading Secrets. It’s a delight.

Love at Mistletoe Inn by Cindy Kirk

Goodreads | Amazon
They've helped orchestrate the perfect day for countless couples. Now twelve new couples will find themselves in the wedding spotlight in the second Year of Weddings novella collection.

An owner of a Victorian inn and charming rustic barn is used to creating the perfect setting for other couples' nuptials. But when she falls head over heels for the new man in her life, will she be prepared to walk down that aisle?

After loving the first Year of Weddings collection, I am certainly excited to be beginning the second – and I think “Love at Mistletoe Inn” by Cindy Kirk is a sweet and fun start. Kirk’s main characters, John and Hope, find themselves in quirky and unexpected circumstances and must suddenly determine how to best handle their relationship. As they navigate this new territory, Kirk adds great secondary characters and tender romance. “Love at Mistletoe Inn” is a quick and addictive read, perfect for this holiday season, and I think fans of A Year of Weddings novellas or simply contemporary romance will enjoy this heartwarming story.

Threads of Faith by Andrea Boeshaar

Goodreads | Amazon
Can Julianna and Daniel start a new life in a new country?

Julianna Wayland is running for her life! She hides in a crate on London’s dock, only to be loaded onto a ship bound for America. During the voyage she meets Captain Daniel Sundberg, and by the time they reach New York’s harbor, she is certain she’s in love with him. The only problem is Daniel has plans for himself – plans that don’t include her.

As Julianna struggles to find her way in a new world, will trouble from her past derail the life she is looking for?

Threads of Faith is the first novel I have read by Andrea Boeshaar, even though it is the second book in her Fabric of Time series, but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Boeshaar creates two very likable and dynamic main characters and brings them together in an adventurous chance encounter aboard a ship. As they interact, Boeshaar easily weaves romance within the adventure and tells a wonderfully engaging story. I was captivated from beginning to end, and now, I can’t wait to read more from Andrea Boeshaar – I will certainly be making time for the other Fabric of Time books in the future. And I recommend Threads of Faith to readers who enjoy historical romance – it won’t disappoint.

Thanks to Booketeria, I received a copy of Threads of Faith and the opportunity to provide an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review, and all the opinions I have expressed are my own.

Lone Star Trail by Darlene Franklin

Goodreads | Amazon
The six-book series about four generations of the Morgan family living, fighting, and thriving amidst a turbulent Texas history spanning from 1845 to 1896 begins with Lone Star Trail. Although a series, each book can be read on its own.

Judson "Jud" Morgan's father died for Texas' freedom during the war for independence. So when the Society for the Protection of German Immigrants in Texas (the Verein) attempts to colonize a New Germany in his country, he takes a stand against them.

After Wande Fleischers' fiancé marries someone else, the young fraulein determines to make a new life for herself in Texas. With the help of Jud's sister Marion, Wande learns English and becomes a trusted friend to the entire Morgan family.

As much as Jud dislikes the immigrant invasion, he can't help admiring Wande's character. She is sweet and cheerful as she serves the Lord and all those around her. Can the rancher put aside his prejudice to forge a new future?  Through Jud and Wande, we learn the powerful lessons of forgiveness and reconciliation among a diverse community of believers.

I really enjoyed Darlene Franklin’s Lone Star Trail, the start to her Texas Trails series. Franklin fills her storyline with a lot of great Texas history (with some aspects completely new to me), as several cultures come together with adventure and romance. Overall, Lone Star Trail is wholesome and pleasant to read and I think fans of inspirational historical fiction will enjoy it. I would recommend it for readers looking for a quick and fun historical read – but beware that it may hook you, since now, I’m interested to see where the series will go in the following novels and can’t wait to read more of Darlene Franklin’s Texas Trails.

Thanks to Moody Publishers, I received a copy of Lone Star Trail and the opportunity to provide an honest review. I was not required to write a positive review, and all the opinions I have expressed are my own.

The Christmas Cat by Melody Carlson

About the Book

Goodreads | Amazon
He felt his face flushing as Cara opened the door. Wearing a garnet-colored knit dress and with her dark hair pinned up, she looked even prettier than he remembered. Suddenly he wished he'd thought to bring a hostess gift. Like a cat.

After years abroad, Garrison Brown finds himself at the home of his beloved grandmother who has just passed away. He must sort out her belongings, including six cats who need new homes. While he hopes to dispense with the task quickly – especially since he is severely allergic to cats – his grandmother's instructions don't allow for speed. She has left some challenging requirements for the future homes of her furry friends.

Can he match the cats with the perfect new owners? And is it possible that he might meet his own match along the way?

Melody Carlson’s The Christmas Cat is yet another enjoyable, feel-good story for this holiday season, perfect for a chilly afternoon spent curled up on the couch. Though I am not necessarily a cat lover, the unique circumstances Garrison’s grandmother leaves for him kept me interested. And as the story progressed, I enjoyed both (surprisingly) getting to know the cats and seeing how Garrison connected the six different cats with various households in the neighborhood. Overall, The Christmas Cat is fun and cute with underlying themes of dreams and faith, and I would recommend it for readers looking for a quick, sweet holiday story.

Rebels by Jill Williamson

Goodreads | Amazon
The remnant of Glenrock has been scattered. But they are not beaten.

The Safe Lands have long kept the true meaning of Liberation secret from their people. But after being sentenced to Liberation themselves, Mason and Omar soon discover the truth.

Levi watched his brothers’ public sentencing and tries to hold out hope they are still alive. He is forced to focus his attention elsewhere, however, when his new wife, Jemma, is captured and made the Safe Lands’ newest Queen. His only choice to save Jemma may be to take up Omar’s old role of undercover vigilante, leading the rebels in their quest to overthrow the government. But will Levi’s new role be enough?

Meanwhile, Jemma’s sister, Shaylinn, is ready to give birth to the “Safe Lands’” children… but not even Ciddah is sure they can be delivered safely in the midst of a rebellion. And Mason must face the fact Omar’s illness could be fatal.

If they can all unite their efforts, together they may be able to expose the Safe Lands’ lies to the people. But if they fail, they will all surely die.

I need to start by saying that I have not read either of Jill Williamson’s first Safe Lands novels (titled Captives and Outcasts) – and Rebels is the third novel in the series, which I knew prior to reading. But when I started reading it, I hoped it would be one of those series novels I could read and enjoy easily enough without having read the previous ones, even if I didn’t necessarily understand every single reference. However, within the first couple chapters, I figured out this would not be the case after being overwhelmed with characters and lack of backstory and I stopped reading. The Safe Lands novels definitely need to be read in order, so if the synopsis of Rebels peaks your interest, I recommend starting from the beginning. I know I plan to do just that – because even though I didn’t finish it, Rebels seems to be well-written with an intriguing plotline. I think this will be quite an enjoyable series, as long as I start from the beginning.

Thanks to BookLook Bloggers, I received a copy of Rebels and the opportunity to honestly review it. I was not required to write a positive review, and all the opinions I have expressed are my own.
