EXCERPT FROM LOVING GRACE

THE CONCIERGE TAKES ONE LOOK at all of our bags and signals for another bellhop. Mrs. Baron does not travel light. To be fair, we are here for three days, and there are many events taking place that will require clothing changes—or so I’ve been told. My suitcase is stuffed so full, it’s bulging around the zipper. I cross my fingers, hoping it won’t spring open as the bellhop maneuvers it onto the cart. And while this weekend is about me “garnering attention” (Mrs. Baron’s words, not mine), I don’t think my clothes flying out of my suitcase in the entrance is the type of attention she’s hoping for.

“Grace, you come with me and John to get you checked in. Bennett and Beau, you two follow the bellhop up to our rooms,” Mrs. Baron says.

“Good luck, Grace,” Bennett says before he and Beau head toward the elevator.

“Thanks.” I stand there, watching them walk away.
