review
a sweet contemporary romance full of small-town charm, found family, and new beginnings!
rebecca's desperate for a fresh start, so she heads to eden, texas, the hometown of her late ex-boyfriend, for a part-time librarian position. that she's pregnant is quite the revelation to his family, but to her surprise, they welcome her with open arms (mostly). walker greystone, especially, goes out of his way to make sure she has reason to stay, even as he works through the complications of his own reputation and standing.
as rebecca and walker work on letting go of the burdens they each carry, a family on his doorstep proves to be a heartwarming story. it's nice to see the characters taking care of one another with a spirit of family and acceptance, and rebecca and walker both find ways to help the other in ways they most need. as a result, their romance feels like it develops naturally and in a way that makes sense.
there are mentions of God throughout the story, and both rebecca and walker learn to see how God has been present in their lives, though they may not have always seen it. however, i did get to the end and wish that, at some point in the story, there was a moment of repentance from rebecca. i think it's possible to see the baby as a blessing and still approach the choices that were made with a little more nuance. all the acceptance she experiences in eden felt a little hollow without it.
still, it's a sweet, uplifting story, and fans of contemporary romance could easily enjoy this quick read.
considerations:
—language: none
—spice: kisses only
—faith: mentions of God, prayer, and church
—content: pregnancy out of wedlock, mentions of death, loss, and cancer
