The Boy Born Dead: A Story of Friendship, Courage, and Triumph by David Ring with John Driver & David Wideman

Where we see tragedy, God sees possibility…

In 1953, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, a baby boy was born – dead. The attending physician set his little body aside and tended to his mother for eighteen minutes. Now, more than sixty years later, that boy leads an internationally known ministry that encourages hundreds of thousands every year. The Boy Born Dead traces the roots of this harrowing, humorous, and heartfelt story.

Few American epics of tragedy, intrigue, friendship, and faith will entertain and challenge the soul like the narrative inspired by the real-life events of David Ring – a boy literally born dead who survives but not without sobering consequences. Living with the harsh realities of cerebral palsy, Ring faces impossible odds yet stumbles into an improbable life of inspiration and influence in the small, unassuming town of Liberty, Missouri, in the 1960s.

As a teenage boy, Ring finds himself tragically orphaned and being shuffled about to various homes. Along this journey, he faces secret, unspeakable atrocities that eventually plunge him into the depths of depression and attempted suicide. But amid the harsh troubles of life, he encounters another boy his age named David, the son of a local pastor. Their unlikely friendship begins on the rocks, but eventually develops into something extraordinary and unique that alters the trajectory of both of their lives – and the whole town of Liberty – forever.

The Boy Born Dead: A Story of Friendship, Courage, and Triumph tells the fascinating and inspiring story of David Ring. Originally born dead and only later began to breathe, Ring experienced many and various challenges and struggles during his growing-up years. Still, God finds him and transforms him in incredible ways. In telling this story, The Boy Born Dead is a well-written and quite amazing read and will not leave its readers unmoved. I enjoyed it and highly recommend it.

The Christmas Joy Ride by Melody Carlson

About the Book
★★★★★
Miranda did not put adventure on her Christmas list, but thanks to her eighty-five-year-old neighbor Joy, that's exactly what she's getting this year. When Joy tells Miranda that she plans to drive an old RV decked out in Christmas decorations from their Chicago neighborhood to her new retirement digs in Phoenix – in the dead of winter, no less – the much younger Miranda insists that Joy cannot make such a trip by herself. Unemployed and facing foreclosure, Miranda feels she has nothing to lose by packing a bag and heading off with Joy toward Route 66. But Joy has a hidden agenda for their Christmas joyride – one that could derail the whole venture.

No one captures the heartwarming fun of the Christmas season quite like Melody Carlson. Fasten your seat belt, because it's going to be an exciting ride!

Melody Carlson’s latest Christmas novel, The Christmas Joy Ride, offers readers a fun, light-hearted story to enjoy during the holiday season. The story follows Miranda, leaving her problems momentarily behind, and her elderly neighbor, Joy, on an RV, route-66 trip across the country to spread holiday cheer to a handful of people in desperate need of it. Though the plot is fairly predictable and the minor romance develops a bit too quickly, The Christmas Joy Ride is a heartwarming holiday book that I enjoyed and will please any reader looking for a quick and enjoyable Christmas read.

Title: The Painter's Daughter
Author: Julie Klassen
Publisher: Bethany House
Expected Publication Date: 1 December 2015

Sophie Dupont, daughter of a portrait painter, assists her father in his studio, keeping her own artwork out of sight. She often walks the cliffside path along the north Devon coast, popular with artists and poets. It's where she met the handsome Wesley Overtree, the first man to tell her she's beautiful.

Captain Stephen Overtree is accustomed to taking on his brother's neglected duties. Home on leave, he's sent to find Wesley. Knowing his brother rented a cottage from a fellow painter, he travels to Devonshire and meets Miss Dupont, the painter's daughter. He's startled to recognize her from a miniature portrait he carries with him – one of Wesley's discarded works. But his happiness plummets when he realizes Wesley has left her with child and sailed away to Italy in search of a new muse.

Wanting to do something worthwhile with his life, Stephen proposes to Sophie. He does not offer love, or even a future together, but he can save her from scandal. If he dies in battle, as he believes he will, she'll be a respectable widow with the protection of his family.

Desperate for a way to escape her predicament, Sophie agrees to marry a stranger and travel to his family's estate. But at Overtree Hall, her problems are just beginning. Will she regret marrying Captain Overtree when a repentant Wesley returns? Or will she find herself torn between the father of her child and her growing affection for the husband she barely knows?

Keeping Christmas by Dan Walsh

About the Book
★★★★
Nothing is more beautiful than family.

For the first time since their children were born, empty nesters Judith and Stan Winters spent Thanksgiving without the kids, and it's looking like Christmas will be the same. Judith can't bring herself to even start decorating for the holiday; her kids always hung the first ornaments on the tree, ornaments they had made each year since they were toddlers. Sure, the ornaments were strange-looking – some were downright ugly – but they were tradition.

With Judith refusing to decorate the bare spruce tree in their living room, Stan's only hope for saving the holiday is found in a box of handmade ornaments…

Dan Walsh’s Keeping Christmas offers its readers a sweet Christmas story for the upcoming holiday season. When her children and their families cannot come home for Thanksgiving and then Christmas, Judith Winters becomes stuck in a slump and cannot summon her Christmas cheer. Her husband, Stan, will try anything to bring back her holiday spirit, yet nothing seems to work - until he settles on a daring idea. Overall, Keeping Christmas is an enjoyable story - though I did become annoyed with Judith’s sole focus on her children’s absence instead of still finding hope in the purpose for the season. Still, it’s a heartwarming and quick book for readers during the holiday season.
