Lindsay rolled her eyes and walked away. The intriguing smile on her face caused him to sway slightly. This was Tim’s widow, and he had no right to think of her in any other light.
In the guest bathroom, he splashed cold water on his cheeks before he swapped his set of sopping-wet navy sweats for the dry gray ones with the faintest trace of the lavender fabric softener Lindsay favored. He left the bathroom and found them all in the living room. With a few strokes, he rubbed his hair with the towel and watched the scene before him. Grandpa Joe was helping Chloe build a cabin with Lincoln Logs while Lindsay and Evan constructed something of their own. The serenity of the setting wasn’t lost on Mason, and he credited Lindsay with the toasty atmosphere as opposed to the wet mess of the spring storm outside.
Even the soft instrumental music, something low and sweet with a Celtic flair, brought a sense of repose, something lacking this afternoon when he and Jordan came upon the scene at Timber River.
She’d even found an old blanket and pillow for Goliath, who was curled up on a makeshift dog bed. He didn’t realize he needed this. Until now.
