about the book
Chris can handle a curveball at the diamond. Can she handle one on the dance floor?
Naturally athletic Christine Novak doesn’t shy away from physical challenges until her older sister needs help on the dance floor. Though she prefers cleats to heels, Chris agrees to help—it’s only for four weeks and for a good cause. But dancing doesn’t come as naturally as throwing a ball, so her sister calls in backup. Handsome, talented, experienced backup.
Tony Caldwell—champion ballroom dancer and Chris’s first childhood crush—agrees to show her the stops, but between her memories of Tony fifteen years ago and the ten-year age gap, Chris struggles to keep her feet in place. Determined to help her succeed, Tony steps out the studio to prove to Chris that she can dance, and that he’s not who she thinks he is.
Extra practices and time together do more than boost Chris’s confidence. As her nerves subside and reality replaces her memories, Chris and Tony become more than dance partners, but their new adult connection might not be enough to overcome the past that catches up to them.

review
when her sister gets in an accident, chris (reluctantly) agrees to take her place in a charity dance competition. chris may be an athlete, but dancing is not her area of expertise. luckily, her sister's old dancing partner, tony caldwell, is available to help her... as they spend time together, chris begins to see that tony's not the man she remembers—but when a curveball's thrown their way, do they actually have a chance at a future together?
curveball on the dance floor seems to promise a cute fish-out-of-water romance, and in some ways, it delivers that. however, chris and tony dancing felt minimal within the overall story (which is not even that long)—and wrapped up in the first half. so much of their story also focuses on chris being assigned to coach the junior varsity volleyball team, while having issues with her school's athletic director and the other volleyball coach, and tony receiving life-changing news. it just didn't feel very focused to me... and amidst everything going on in their lives, the connection between chris and tony felt like instalove, and that's hard to really root for.
also, as the second book in a series, curveball on the dance floor expects the reader to have familiarity with the first book. there were several times i felt a little confused and then, realized it was probably something that was explained in finally forever. i don't usually have a problem reading romance series out of order, so it caught me off guard.
still, if you read and enjoyed finally forever, curveball on the dancefloor could be a fun read for you.
considerations:
—language: none
—spice: kisses only
—faith: none
—content: mentions of one-night stands, abortion, and pregnancy out of wedlock
