The Friday 56 & First Line Friday | Beneath the Surface

The Friday 56 is hosted weekly by Freda's Voice.
First Line Friday is hosted weekly by Hoarding Books.

Happy Friday!

I've enjoyed revisiting Lynn H. Blackburn's Beneath the Surface this week to put together a book-inspired playlist. It's an exciting, suspenseful story. Enjoy the peek (and pop over here for a few songs and a giveaway)!

First Line: Homicide investigator Ryan Parker flashed a thumbs-up to his dive buddy and fellow homicide investigator, Gabe Chavez.

From Page 56: "I got a text this morning saying you were in a car wreck. That you didn't have brakes. I got here as fast as I could, but you were already in surgery. How are you feeling?"

ABOUT THE BOOK
After a harrowing experience with an obsessed patient, oncology nurse practitioner Leigh Weston needed a change. She thought she'd left her troubles behind when she moved home to Carrington, North Carolina, and took a job in the emergency department of the local hospital. But when someone tampers with her brakes, she fears the past has chased her into the present. She reaches out to her high school friend turned homicide investigator, Ryan Parker, for help.

Ryan finds satisfaction in his career, but his favorite way to use his skills is as a volunteer underwater investigator with the Carrington County Sheriff's Office dive team. When the body of a wealthy businessman is discovered in Lake Porter, the investigation uncovers a possible serial killer--one with a terrifying connection to Leigh Weston and deadly implications for them all.

Dive into the depths of fear with an exciting new voice in romantic suspense. Award-winning author Lynn H. Blackburn grabs readers by the throat and doesn't let go until the final heart-pounding page.

Now, feel free to leave a line from a book near you in the comments below.
And be sure to stop by Hoarding Books and Freda's Voice for a peek into other books.

  3. Happy Friday!😀

Today my FLF is from a book I will be reading very soon, An Awakened Heart by Jody Hedlund.

“Stop prostituting yourselves and run to the loving Father who will embrace you with forgiveness.” Reverend Bedell’s voice rose above the sniffles and muffled weeping of the women crowded on trestle benches of Centre Street Chapel.

Have a great weekend and Happy Reading!📚😀

  4. Happy Friday! My first line is from Storm Front (Montana Rescue Book #5) by Susan May Warren:

“Ty Remington blamed the homemade orange marmalade cake for why he found himself huddled under an overhang off some faraway path in Glacier National Park, shivering, praying he might live through the night.”

I’m featuring Pepper Basham’s, “A Twist of Faith” on my blog today. Since I have Lindsay Harrel’s, “The Heart Between Us” in front of me, I’ll share my first line from here.

  7. My first lines come from A.L. Jackson’s Lead Me Home.

“I’d always wondered why people set themselves up for disaster. Why they put their heart on the line when they knew it would only be crushed. Why they led themselves toward the slaughter like a blind, ignorant lamb. Willingly.”

I’m featuring lines from Tess Thompson’s Deleted: Jackson and Maggie on my blog. I’m about half way through and absolutely in love with this story and the characters. Stop by and take a look!

  11. I'm sharing from my current read, No Less Days by Amanda G. Stevens, on my blog today, so here is the first line from an upcoming read, Reclaiming Shilo Snow by Mary Weber:

"The moment Earth's United World Council officially placed seventeen-year-old Sofi Snow at the top of their Imminent Terrorist Threat list, a siren went off in the circular downtown building, and she became the most wanted teenager alive."

    Happy Friday!

  12. I love suspense novels - thanks for sharing!

Today I'm sharing the first line of That's Amore by Marion Ueckermann on my blog. It's the first book in the new multi-author Tuscan Legacy series. I'm now reading the third book, Rapsodia (Rhapsody) by Alexa Verde. Here's the first line:

Marco Carter would rather spend a day in a pit with snakes than an hour on a plane.

Personally, I love flying and hate snakes. What about you?
