about the book
Can she protect her gym students before her past catches up?
When Chloe Ainsworth’s older sister reappears after fourteen years, she brings with her the news that Chloe’s abuser is back in town. Chloe is a coach at her childhood gym and fiercely protective of her young gymnasts. She won’t allow them to suffer the way she did, but she’s desperate for an ally—one who can help her make her case.
Law student Dare Shepherd works at the local legal clinic, where he meets Chloe and hears her out. He believes her case but can’t get the clinic director on board. As he learns more about her story, he finds himself bound by a deepening personal care for Chloe.
They band together in search of answers, and suddenly the stakes skyrocket. It’s clear they’re onto something, but will they be able to find the answers before it’s too late?

review
chloe ainsworth's past has haunted her for years... now that her abuser's back in town, it's time to confront what happened—and prevent others from getting hurt in the same way. law student dare shepherd offers to help her, but of course, they need to find proof to really make a difference.
the targeted is such an interesting legal drama. the pace moves slowly, but steadily, and i enjoyed seeing chloe and dare work and reason to reveal the truth productively and legally. there's some added tension with the return of chloe's sister and her alternate plans, as well as a lighter thread of romance alongside it all. it all makes for a satisfying read as it plays out—though it's relevancy makes it hard, at times, and emotional, too.
it's the third book in the series, but it can easily be read as a standalone. the former main characters are chloe's best friends, though, so i'm sure knowing their stories makes it fun to see them again.
overall, the targeted is a solid read. if you're looking for some legal drama with suspense and romance, definitely check it out.
considerations:
—language: none
—spice: kisses only
—faith: consistent christian themes and mentions
—content: a parent with alzheimer's, mentions of abuse and suicide
