Happy Friday!
I love Denise Hunter's stories, so of course, I couldn't resist a reread of her fake-engagement holiday novella this week.
First Line: Layla O'Reilly squeezed into a corner of the bustling kitchen of Cappy's Pizzeria and leaned into the receiver.
From 56%: "Stepping off the plane was a rude awakening, let me tell you."
ABOUT THE BOOK
What started as a whim turned into an accidental---and very public---engagement. Can Layla and Seth keep up the facade in Chapel Springs this holiday season---for the sake of her career . . . and his heart?
Under normal circumstances, Seth Murphy---the best friend of Layla O'Reilly's ex-fiance---would be the last person she'd marry. But the news of their upcoming (and phony) nuptials convinces a big client that Layla may be high-society enough to work for his agency---a coup that would put her fledgling home-staging business on the map.
Seth has secretly loved Layla for years, even when she was dating his best friend. Maybe she'll never forgive him for the way he hurt her back then, but he has to try. And Layla is willing to keep up their engagement farce until she's landed her client.
For Layla, it's the chance to save her career. But for Seth, it's his last chance to win her heart.
Now, feel free to leave a line from a book near you in the comments below.
And be sure to stop by Hoarding Books and Freda's Voice for a peek into other books.
This sounds like a great story. Enjoy your current read!
ReplyDeleteToday on my blog I’m sharing the first two lines from The Earl’s Betrothal by Karen Tuft. This book is SO good. If you love Regency I highly recommend this story. I’m currently on chapter 10, so I’ll share from there:
ReplyDelete“Amelia slept until noon, so exhausted she was from the events of the day and night before.”
Hope you have a great weekend! 🙂❤📖
Sounds like the makings of a good read! Happy Friday The 13th Weekend!
ReplyDeleteHappy Friday! Today I'm sharing the first lines from Courage to See: Daily Inspiration from Great Literature by Greg Garrett and Sabrina Fountain: "When I was a child, I wanted to sleep with my books, something my mom wouldn't allow because I slept on the top bunk, and she didn't want them falling down and hitting my sister."

ReplyDeleteThis week on my blog I shared the first lines from the novella collection Sew in Love but I'm currently reading Seconds to Live. I'll share the first line from chapter 3 here: "In a warm robe, her fingers pink and wrinkled from the hour spent in the tub, Taylor grabbed her phone and studied the missed call." Hope you have a great weekend!
My first line is from the debut novel Above the Fold by Rachel Scott McDaniel.

Soot-stained windows filtered the morning light, casting an ashen shadow on the crowded courtroom and darkening the sting of judgment.
Okay, I have to admit, I read that first line as "Crappy's Pizza" for a second at first and was super confused. xD This sounds like a really cute novella, though! Love that 56% snippet.
