about the book
Desperate for extra income after her mother’s passing, Adanne accepts a last-minute job as a makeup artist for a movie filming in her small Alabama hometown. She’s working to save her parents’ legacy and help her brother, but the money hardly seems worth having to face the actor who got her fired from her last job in Hollywood.
John Pope has made his share of mistakes over the years. But after turning his life over to God and enduring a messy breakup, he’s ready to start rebuilding his career. Imagine his surprise when the woman called in to cover for his usual makeup artist is a quiet but feisty newcomer on the set–and definitely not a fan.
Sparks of tension–and could that be attraction?–fly between them, but Adanne hates the spotlight, and John’s scheming manager has bigger plans for him than to end up with the humble makeup girl from the small-town South. Can these star-crossed lovers find their way to happiness? Or will the bright lights of Hollywood blind their eyes to what’s right in front of them?
Debut author Jenny Erlingsson’s diverse cast comes alive with faith, romance, and a touch of humor to create a story worthy of the big screen.

review
an uplifting contemporary romance from a debut author!
makeup artist adanne takes a job on a movie set filming in her small alabama town—for the movie star that got her fired from her last job. she may not be john pope's biggest fan, but their time together still sparks an unexpected friendship—and maybe even something more.
of course, they each have their own challenges. recently reformed, john needs to jumpstart his career—and a public relationship may be just the boost it needs. adanne, on the other hand, doesn't have time for the spotlight, overwhelmed with the (costly) familial obligations she shoulders. will they be able to overcome these challenges together, or are their lives too different?
as the drama between and around adanne and john plays out, her part to play offers a lot of great moments. i loved seeing how they got to know each other, surrounded by small-town charm and family interaction. for both characters, faith plays an important role, and i was so encouraged seeing it woven into the character growth throughout the story.
with all these elements together (romance and drama, faith and family), her part to play delivers a great read for fans of contemporary fiction.
(i have to say: if you loved toni shiloh's the love script, you need to check out her part to play. they share plenty of commonalities—he's a reformed celebrity, she works behind the scenes, etc.—but don't worry; the stories take a few different turns to tell distinct stories.)
