the mysterious start to a new regency series from erica vetsch!
sir bertrand thorndike is assigned to investigate stolen royal jewels—and of course, the crime doesn't stop with these missing valuables. former courtesan philippa cashel could be useful the investigation, but both she and bertie are skeptical of the partnership. still, as the danger ramps up, they'll need to work together to solve the mystery.
a thieving at carlton house has a lot to offer the historical-fiction reader. the mystery kept my interest through some surprising reveals and discoveries, the characters proved well-rounded and full of depth—philippa's character especially allowed for an exploration of historical reality i haven't really seen before—and the faith elements woven through it all offer great insight, truth, and hope.
it's worth the read.
