ABOUT THE BOOK
Actress Kara Kensington flies to New Hope, Wisconsin, where she'll spend the winter holidays filming a movie. Her entire career depends on the success of the feel-good story based on her best friend's life. To salvage her strained friendship with Dani, Kara asks the cute guy from the flight to act as her new boyfriend. But the longer she spends with him, the less she's acting.
For Chef Scott Neil, his holidays aren't only about family togetherness. He wants Aunt Shirley and Uncle Ted to retire. When he's asked to fake a relationship with Kara, he agrees. As he gets drawn into Kara's production, he questions what is real and what's just for show. Only a fool would fall in love with America's sweetheart.

“Go out and say hi. Charm her.” Aunt Shirley wiggled her eyebrows.
Scott chuckled and dipped his chin. “As you wish.”
Aunt Shirley swatted him on the shoulder.
He walked past and pushed through the swinging door. The moment his hand left the frame, he sucked in a breath, preparing for the inevitable crash. When would he remember how touchy the exit was? With an odd sense of awareness, he turned his head to the right and spotted her.
Seated in the last booth, she wore a knit hat over her hair.
She remembered. Warmth radiated out from his heart through his limbs.
She approached.
Her blue eyes glinted like mile-deep glacial ice. Without saying a word, he understood her command to stay put. Tucking her hand around his elbow, she scalded his skin like she wielded the metal spatula left on the cooker.
“We need to talk outside.”
Her warm breath tickled his neck just below his ear. He nodded.
She pulled him through the restaurant and around the building, dropping her hold.
Cold slapped him. He stared at the spot she’d held, expecting to see a burn mark outlining her fingers on his flannel sleeve.
“Will you be my pretend boyfriend?”
He stepped back and searched her face, looking for some clue he’d heard correctly. “Excuse m—”
“Listen, please.” She raised her bare palms.
Frowning, he studied her pale fingers, the nail beds almost blue from cold.
