"Pizza, huh?" Nathaniel glanced over his shoulder just as she spotted the boys tumbling in the bright green grass with Dodger. How dirty would they all be by bedtime? "What if we get carryout from the pizza place in town and take it to the Town Circle? Tonight's the last night to see the old version before I start refurbishing."
"I see what you're doing." She threw up her defenses, her emotions too turbulent to find solid footing. “You're trying to get my mind off that phone call.”
"Is that what I'm doing?" Nathaniel gave a cheeky grin, threatening to take down the wall she'd just put up. “Or am I aiming to make one last memory of the old place?"
Oh! She liked the way she felt when he looked at her like that. It chased all the cold, dark places away and wrapped her in a warm blanket of peace.

Danielle Grandinetti is an inspirational romance author fueled by tea and books, and the occasional nature walk.
