After seven
years as a Chicago homicide detective, Lisa Grant has hit a wall. Ready for a
kinder, gentler life, she takes a job as a small-town police chief. But the
discovery of a human skeleton by a construction crew at the edge of town taxes
the resources of her department. A call for assistance brings detective Mac
McGregor, an ex-Navy SEAL, to her doorstep. As they work to solve the mystery
behind the unmarked grave, danger begins to shadow them. Someone doesn't want
this dead person telling any tales – and will stop at nothing to make certain a
life-shattering secret stays buried.

Phew,
what a read. Irene Hannon’s Buried Secrets, the first in her Men of Valor series, kept me on edge from start to finish. As expected in one of
Hannon’s romantic suspense novels, the drama and suspense steadily build with
riveting action, well-timed discoveries and sweetly developing romance. The
main characters, Lisa Grant and Mac McGregor, are admirable and likeable in
their passion for their jobs and pursuit of justice, while the villain is
easily disliked - and even a bit scary - yet conniving, thorough and smart. It
is a read that fans of romantic suspense - and especially of Irene Hannon -
will not want to miss - though it may lead to a sleepless night or two. Still,
I heartily recommend it and cannot wait to revisit this series with book two.
Thanks to Revell Reads, I received a copy of Buried
Secrets and the opportunity to provide an honest review. I was not required
to write a positive review, and all the opinions I have expressed are my own.
