Happy Friday!
Perhaps, with Father's Day being this weekend, Jody Hedlund's latest Orphan Train book is an interesting choice to feature today... But I enjoyed reading Together Forever earlier this week and can't help sharing about it.
First Line: Marianne Neumann's fingers were shaking so hard she could barely pry open the first record book.
From Page 56: After almost an hour of high-pitched enthusiasm, many of the children returned to their seats. Some were already quiet, contemplative as if realizing how different their lives would be, how much was changing, and how far from home they were going.
ABOUT THE BOOK
Will the mistakes of their past cost them a chance at love?
Determined to find her lost younger sister, Marianne Neumann takes a job as a placing agent with the Children's Aid Society in 1858 New York. She not only hopes to offer children a better life, but prays she'll be able to discover whether Sophie ended up leaving the city on an orphan train so they can finally be reunited.
Andrew Brady, her fellow agent on her first placing-out trip, is a former schoolteacher who has an easy way with children, firm but tender and friendly. Underneath his charm and handsome looks, though, seems to linger a grief that won't go away--and a secret from his past that he keeps hidden.
As the two team up, placing orphans in the small railroad towns of Illinois, they find themselves growing ever closer . . . until a shocking tragedy threatens to upend all their work and change one of their lives forever.
Now, feel free to leave a line from a book near you in the comments below.
And be sure to stop by Hoarding Books* and Freda's Voice for a peek into other books.
*This week, Hoarding Books in hosting a Father's Day-themed FLF.

ReplyDeleteMy first line is from Laura Ingall Wilder’s, “Little House on the Prairie” which I am sharing on the blog today. I’m still currently reading “Just Let Go” so I don’t have an actual first line to share today that isn’t from the blog.

Here, I will share the first line in Chapter Fourteen of that same book: "Sam extended his hand through the doorway of the ivy-covered mansion. An appendage the size of a catcher’s mitt engulfed his palm." Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
