The Friday 56 & First Line Friday | Imperfect Justice

The Friday 56 is hosted weekly by Freda's Voice.
First Line Friday is hosted weekly by Hoarding Books.

Happy Friday!

I've been enjoying the legal suspense of Cara Putman's Hidden Justice series this week, so here's a peek at the second book, Imperfect Justice.

First Line: As he reviewed the logs from Kaylene's car, he was impressed.

From Page 56: Reid returned her stare, noting the blush that crept up her neck in response. She was cute, with her hair pulled up in a casual way, a few blonde strands escaping around her face. He looked away. Then he looked again.

ABOUT THE BOOK
“This is the way legal thrillers are meant to be—compelling, intelligent, and deeply satisfying.” —Randy Singer, author of Rule of Law

The police say the woman was a murderer. Emilie Wesley knows they can't be talking about her client... can they?

To the world it seems obvious: Kaylene Adams killed her daughter and then was shot by police. Attorney Emilie Wesley knows a different story: Kaylene would never hurt anyone and was looking for a way out of a controlling, abusive relationship. Her death shakes Emilie’s belief that she can make a difference for women in violent marriages. Self-doubt plagues her as she struggles to continue her work in the wake of the tragedy.

Reid Billings thought he knew his sister—right up until he learned how she died. He discovers a letter from Kaylene begging him to fight for custody of her daughters if anything should happen to her. No attorney in her right mind would support an uncle instead of the father in a custody case, but Kaylene’s letter claims Emilie Wesley will help him.

Thrown together in a race to save Kaylene’s surviving daughter, Emily and Reid pursue the constantly evasive truth. If they can hang on to hope together, can they save a young girl—and find a future for themselves in the process?

Now, feel free to leave a line from a book near you in the comments below.
And be sure to stop by Hoarding Books and Freda's Voice for a peek into other books.

  2. I’m sharing from the prologue of King’s Folly by Jill Williamson on my blog today, so here I’ll share from the first chapter:

“A procession of fifty men made their way through the cool desert night from the royal retreat in Canden toward The Gray. Fifty-one men, technically, though the king did not count the wailing convict riding in the cage since the man would soon be dead.”

    Have a great weekend!

  3. Today’s first lines come from Kat Mizera’s new release, Defending Dani. This was a super sweet and emotional hockey romance.

“Sergei Petrov got out of the taxi and hurriedly paid the drive as he grabbed his bag. He hadn’t seen his son in more than two months and couldn’t wait to look into his sweet little face.”

I’m featuring lines from Lexi Blake’s new release “Order of Protection” on my blog. Check out to see the start of her newest series!

  5. Loved this book!

    Happy Friday!

Today on my blog, I'm sharing the first paragraph to This Wilderness Journey by Misty Beller. Here I will share the first two lines from the book I'm currently reading, I Am My Beloved by Caryl McAdoo. It's a retelling of Song of Solomon.

"Abishag held the cups level and took small ladylike steps, careful not to slosh. She grinned then placed the wine -- except water really, her mother wouldn't allow her real wine -- on the stone table."

Hope you have an excellent weekend with lots of quality reading time! 😁
