Top Ten Tuesday | Christmas in July

Hosted weekly by That Artsy Reader Girl.

Happy Tuesday!

This summer has been so HOT it's crazy. I've caught myself, more than once recently, longing for a cooler seasonand the books that come with it. It may be only July now, but I'm ready for some Christmas-book reading, so I can't help throwing back to a holiday-themed TTT topic

If you too need a break from the heat (and a little "Christmas in July"), here are the books I've loved in recent years.

Also, for more snow-related fun, check out Alaskan Hideaway.

The Afterlife of Holly Chase by Cynthia Hand: A YA contemporary that plays with A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.
The Christmas Train by David Baldacci: A dramatic cross-country train trip that offers a second chance at romance. (Also, a Hallmark movie.)

Dash & Lily's Book of Dares & The Twelve Days of Dash and Lily by Rachel Cohn & David Levithan: A YA contemporary about Dash and Lily, of course, brought together by a strategically placed notebook in a bookstore.

Dashing Through the Snow & The Snow Bride by Debbie Macomber: One story involves a road trip and case of mistaken identity, while the other starts with a trip to Alaska to meet a man from online. They're a little ridiculous and over-the-top, but still so much fun! (Also, a Hallmark movie.)

A December Bride by Denise Hunter: I love Denise Hunter's stories, and I love fake relationships. This novella is perfect. (Also, a Hallmark movie.)
A Lineage of Grace by Francine Rivers: Five novellas chronicling the lives of the women included in the genealogy of Jesus.

My New Crush Gave to Me by Shani Petroff: A YA contemporary involving a Secret Santa exchange. Super cute.
My True Love Gave to Me, edited by Stephanie Perkins: A fun short story collection from popular YA authors.

One Enchanted Christmas, One Enchanted Eve & One Enchanted Noël by Melissa Tagg: A series of contemporary novellas, set in the adorable small town of Maple Valley—it's impossible to not smile while reading them.

Skipping Christmas by John Grisham: This book is the basis for Christmas With the Kranks, and it's so much fun.
What Light by Jay Asher: A YA contemporary involving a tree farm—essentially, it's a Hallmark movie in book form, and it's adorable.

Where Treetops Glisten by Tricia Goyer, Cara Putman & Sarah Sundin: A novella collection about three siblings during World War II. It's so sweet, and it's been a few years since I read it, so I may need to add it to the list for this year.

And as a bonus, here are a few of the books I'm hoping to read this year:

The Christmas Prayer by Wanda E. Brunstetter
One Christmas in Winter by Bell Renshaw
Snow in Love by Melissa de la Cruz, Nic Stone, Aimee Friedman & Kasie West

What's your favorite Christmas book? Any I should add to my list for December?

  1. Is it sad that this makes me want it to be Christmas time?! haha! I love Christmas but I'm sooo not ready for it this year! Great topic.

    1. Haha, I'm so not ready either. Just for the weather and the books. ;)

  2. OF COURSE Melissa's would be on this list! I wanted to read "The Christmas Train" before the movie, but I only got about halfway through before my library loan expired ... so then I just watched the movie. And "A December Bride" is one of my favorite of Denise's stories (and I think so much better than the Hallmark movie). OK, I'll stop gushing :-) This post put me in the mood for Christmas (well, Hallmark Movies & Mysteries already had me halfway there with the Christmas movies over the last week)! Anyway, here's my TTT.

  3. I like your twist on the topic. The only one I’ve read is My True Love Gave To Me. I really liked it.
