The Friday 56 & First Line Friday | Holding the Fort

The Friday 56 is hosted weekly by Freda's Voice.
First Line Friday is hosted weekly by Hoarding Books.

Happy Friday!

I'm finally getting to read this book from Regina Jennings soon! It looks like a fun mistaken-identity, western romance, and I'm so excited.

First Line: The fumes of the gaslights at the foot of the stage protected Louisa Bell from the more noxious odors of her audience.

From Page 56: There had to be a mistake. This house was finer than any she'd ever been in before.

ABOUT THE BOOK
Jennings Winningly Combines Humor, History, and Romance.

Louisa Bell never wanted to be a dance-hall singer, but dire circumstances force her hand. With a little help from her brother in the cavalry, she's able to make ends meet, but lately he's run afoul of his commanding officer, so she undertakes a visit to straighten him out.

Major Daniel Adams has his hands full at Fort Reno. He can barely control his rowdy troops, much less his two adolescent daughters. If Daniel doesn't find someone respectable to guide his children, his mother-in-law insists she'll take them.

When Louisa arrives with some reading materials, she's mistaken for the governess who never appeared. Major Adams is skeptical. She bears little resemblance to his idea of a governess--they're not supposed to be so blamed pretty--but he's left without recourse. His mother-in-law must be satisfied, which leaves him turning a blind eye to his unconventional governess's methods. Louisa's never faced so important a performance. Can she keep her act together long enough?

Now, feel free to leave a line from a book near you in the comments below.
And be sure to stop by Hoarding Books and Freda's Voice for a peek into other books.

  4. Happy Friday!

My First Lines come from Season of Wonder by RaeAnne Thayne.....

“This is totally lame. Why do we have to stay here and wait for you? We can walk home in, like, ten minutes.” Daniela Capelli drew in a deep breath and prayed for patience, something she seemed to be doing with increasing frequency these days when it came to her thirteen-year-old daughter. “It’s starting to snow and already almost dark.”

Have an awesome weekend and happy reading!💕📚

  5. I love this author and I love that first line! So vivid and filled with emotion. Happy Friday! The book I’m sharing on my blog is “Out of the Storm” by Jody Hedlund. Since I’m still reading it, I will share the first line of the fourth chapter here. “Isabelle,” called Henry from the bedroom. “I need you!” May your weekend be all you’re hoping it will be.

  6. Happy Friday!
Today on my blog, I am sharing the first line from Tracy Groot's novel The Stones of my Accusers. Currently, I am reading Finding Us by Heather Moore. So far, it's a fun book. One of those books that has me smiling with each page! I am starting chapter 7, so I will leave the first line from there.

"Opening the bookshop on Saturday morning wasn't as bad as Felicity thought it might be."

Hope you have an excellent weekend filled with quality reading time!

  8. Happy Friday! After preparing my blog post sharing first line from Shelley Shepard Gray’s Her Fear, I ended up reading the entire book. So here I’ll share the first lines for a novella I plan to read soon, Come Fly with Me by Gina Welborn and Becca Whitham:

Please, let him not be here. As Luanne Palmer climbed the stairs to the second floor, she muttered “please” after “please.”

    Enjoy Holding the Fort!

  9. My first line is from chapter 6 of The Cumberland Bride by Shannon McNear:

Morning dawned with a bit more edge to the wind and the clouds more thick and grey, spitting definite rain.

I'm sharing the first line from All Made Up by Kara Isaac on my blog this week. It's currently available for pre-order, and it's another winner in my totally biased opinion :)

I'm currently reading Delayed Justice by Cara Putman. Here's the first line:

    "It's time to go, sweetie."
