GUEST POST FROM THE AUTHOR

Interviewing the Heroine in Fall Flip

Today we’re chatting not with the author of newly released Lighthouse Publishing of the Carolinas novel Fall Flip, Denise Weimer, but with the heroine of the story—Shelby Dodson. First, a bit of background:

Fall Flip, Candlelight Romance contemporary, set in the river town of Augusta, Georgia

Blog: Welcome, Shelby. What was your first impression of Scott Matthews?

Shelby: That he was honing in on my clients! Lester and Ruby Wentworth had previously hired me to redesign their 1920s bungalow … before my husband, who helped me flip houses on our TV show, died in a work accident.

Blog: I’m so sorry. How long had it been since that happened?

Shelby: About nine months. I was assessing the Wentworths’ property, and who should show up but Scott Matthews? I thought he was a realtor. You can imagine my surprise when Ruby told me that he would be acting as general contractor on my project. Even more so when he said his last name and I remembered he was that awkward “shop boy” from high school. Not quite so awkward now, though.

Blog: Did he remember you?

Shelby: He did, but he had the wrong take on me from those early years. To be fair, I guess we’d both changed.

Blog: So he started to grow on you?

Shelby: It took a while. Scott kept making me do dirty, hands-on jobs. I didn’t understand why he was pushing me to get involved when all I wanted to do was shop and decorate. Eventually, I realized he knew I needed to feel needed, and learning new skills would make me more marketable. He also started bringing me surprises.

Blog: What kind of surprises?

Shelby: My favorite coffee, and things he’d cooked with Lester, who’d been a restaurant owner. When I met Scott’s family, I learned there was a whole lot more to him than “shop boy.”

Blog: What challenges did your relationship face?

Shelby: Hm. Enter one Caitlyn Curtis. She’s an artist who worked downtown near Scott. He said she was a friend from college, but I could tell there was more to the story. It became pretty clear that she was determined to make Scott stepdad to her little girl. I also had trouble not comparing Scott to my first husband or feeling guilty that I was developing feelings for another man. But I suppose the biggest contention I had with Scott was how we disagreed over the bungalow. Not just the redesign stuff, but what to do about the mysterious history we found out the house possessed.

Blog: That sounds like a good place to direct the reader to your book—before we get into spoilers! We look forward to learning more in Fall Flip.
