First Line: An earthquake started it.

From Page 56: The closing for her mother-in-law had fallen right out of Camille's mind.

ABOUT THE BOOK
Challenging perceptions of discrimination and prejudice, this emotionally resonant drama for readers of Lisa Wingate and Jodi Picoult explores three different women navigating challenges in a changing school district--and in their lives.

When an impoverished school district loses its accreditation and the affluent community of Crystal Ridge has no choice but to open their school doors, the lives of three very different women converge: Camille Gray--the wife of an executive, mother of three, long-standing PTA chairwoman and champion fundraiser--faced with a shocking discovery that threatens to tear her picture-perfect world apart at the seams. Jen Covington, the career nurse whose long, painful journey to motherhood finally resulted in adoption but she is struggling with a happily-ever-after so much harder than she anticipated. Twenty-two-year-old Anaya Jones--the first woman in her family to graduate college and a brand new teacher at Crystal Ridge's top elementary school, unprepared for the powder-keg situation she's stepped into. Tensions rise within and without, culminating in an unforeseen event that impacts them all. This story explores the implicit biases impacting American society, and asks the ultimate question: What does it mean to be human? Why are we so quick to put labels on each other and categorize people as "this" or "that", when such complexity exists in each person?

Now, feel free to leave a line from a book near you in the comments below.

My first lines come from a book I'm reading shortly, Living in Harmony by Mary Ellis.

The rain’s finally stopped. We’re late. I’d better get you home before your father comes looking for us carrying his squirrel rifle—thunderstorm or no.”

“Hmm,” replied Amy. John’s attempt at humor fell short of its mark.

Have a relaxing weekend and happy reading!😊

  7. I want to read this! I've heard a lot of good things about it.

I’m sharing from Formula of Deception by Carrie Stuart Parks on my blog. It's a standalone thriller, not part of her Gwen Marcey series, and it's set in Alaska - always a great start! I don't have a line to share here because I've been editing this week, not reading, and the first line might change. I'll be sharing it just as soon as I get permission from the author :)

Sandy Lincoln nervously twirled her long blond hair around her index finger.

  11. I’m sharing lines from A.L. Jackson’s upcoming release More of You on my blog today. It’s a second chance romance.

Here, I’ll be sharing lines from My Kinda Forever by Lacey Black.

“It’s a Summer sister tradition that on the first Saturday of each month, the six of us get together.  We take turns picking the location or activity, anything from margaritas and a movie to wine and painting classes at the small uptown gallery.  One thing, though, is as certain as the sun rising over the Chesapeake Bay every morning: there will be alcohol  involved. “

    Happy Reading!

  12. I'm featuring my newest book by a favorite author, Early Riser by Jasper Fforde. I flipped a bit forward to page 15, so I could share a line:

"There was an intake of breath. It was the mission statement of the Campaign for Real Sleep, sort of a rallying cry."

    Happy Friday!

  13. The book I shared this week on my blog is A Changed Agent by Tracey J Lyons. Shockingly I'm not reading a book right now because I finished one last night and was gone all day today. This won't be a reading weekend for me but I'm enjoying a busy weekend with friends and family. Hope you have a great weekend!

Yesterday on my blog, I shared the first few lines from Monstrous Beauty by Carol E. Keen. I'm just really getting into the book, so I'll share another line from that book here:
