The Mosaic Collection: Regina Rudd Merrick | Guest Post + Giveaway

For His glory…
The Mosaic Collection is an international community of women authors who use faith-based fiction to touch hearts with the good news that Christ’s finished work on the cross has made us one family, and to nurture affection for the people God has placed within our circles of influence, so that the grace and glory of God may become visible and personal to everyone we meet.

…and our good
We are sisters, a beautiful mosaic united by the love of God through the blood of Christ. We have experienced the redemptive, restorative power of God’s grace in our marriages and families, and we believe our God is able to heal, restore and redeem our brokenness. His love fills us with the courage to persevere, and to offer others a Christ-like compassion that is full of His wisdom and grace.

GUEST POST FROM THE AUTHOR

I’ve loved the idea of renovating old houses since watching the “This Old House” crew renovate the Weatherby House in the 1980’s. As a teen, I wanted to be an Interior Designer, but where, in Western KY, would a person be able to do that as an actual job?

So, common-sense prevailed and I became a librarian, and then an author.

But the desire was still there.

All that time watching HGTV and actually living in an old house made me want to write a story about a girl and a contractor who find themselves reacquainted as adults, working on the same project.
When you read my “Reno-Vations” story, you’ll be reading many descriptions of my own house, a 1916 Craftsman. Yes, right down to the description of the top basement step being further down than the other steps!

Besides the fact that I love old houses (can YOU say “Fixer-Upper?”), I also love the area where I live in Kentucky. We’re close to the Ohio River, and in my story I’ve created a fictional community outside the real town of Marion, which is our county seat of government. In doing local research, I learned that in the early 1800’s, there was a man who ran a sawmill and had a dream of a town on the banks of the Ohio. He built his own house there, and before he could see his dream come to fruition, he was killed in a sawmill accident.

In my story, there had once been a small community on the Kentucky side of the Ohio where the ferry takes motorists across to Illinois in “real life.”

It amazes me what inspires a story. Some of it comes from those hidden desires in your heart, some from historical fact, some from a list of “what if” questions.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Regina Rudd Merrick is a writer, church musician, wife, mother, former librarian, and grateful follower of Jesus Christ. Having lived most of her life in Western Kentucky, she dreams of the sound of crashing waves and sandy beaches. Married to her husband of 35+ years, she is the mother of two grown daughters, and the keeper of a 100-year-old house where she lives in the small town of Marion, KY. She is the author of three books: Carolina Dream (Apr. 2017), Carolina Mercy (July 2018), and Carolina Grace (February 2019) in the Southern Breeze Series.

Cornerstone message from the collection: Trust God and do the next right thing.

I want my readers to know that they are not alone, and that what they’re going through is not unique to them. Life isn’t a series of obstacles to overcome, but a series of events that point us to Jesus, who loves us more than we can imagine.
